Aladdin and friends

The Downtown Disney LEGO Store by Disneyland has undergone a major facelift. Like the one in Orlando last year, they've updated the displays with a series of Disney-themed sculptures, including Aladdin.

Triple Self-Portrait

At the same Festival of the Masters event I noted yesterday, the LEGO Group brought a big display piece. This was an interactive exhibit, where event attendees assembled 6x6 mosaic sections and then these were combined into a huge mosaic based on the famous Norman Rockwell painting.

Little Mermaid and friends

I was happy to recently learn that the LAML podcast is active once again after a long hiatus (this was posted on the Brothers-Brick), and so I've gone back and listened to the last several podcasts. One of the podcasts featured an interview with Joe Meno about his book The Cult of LEGO. He also talked about recently attending the 2011 Festival of the Masters, an annual event held by GFLUG in the Downtown Disney area outside of Disney World. Last year's theme was water, and Joe wanted to also have a Disney tie-in, so he brought Flounder and Sebastian. He also noted that Scott Little had a similarly themed mosaic.

Incredibles

My kids wanted to watch the Incredibles yesterday, so I figured I'd feature Bob and the Omnidroid by MacLane. I'm not sure whether or not this is Angus MacLane or not. It would make sense, since Angus is part of Pixar, and this Brickshelf gallery has several Pixar-inspired MOCs. OTOH, there is nothing in common between this Brickshelf gallery and Angus' Flickr stream, so I don't know if this a completely different builder, or it's just that his old stuff is on Brickshelf and newer stuff is all on Flickr.

Princesses

Icare made a series of figures similar to the recent block buddies meme. Let's start out with two classic princesses - Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

Big Buzz

Kevin Hink, who works at the LEGO store in Austin, Texas, made this scene to commemorate the store opening and the 8 foot Buzz build.

Giant Buzz

Here's a smaller version that the Master Builders used as a template to make the 8-foot Buzz.

Humongous Buzz

When the LEGO store opened in Austin, Texas in August of 2010, there was a public event to build a 8 foot Buzz Lightyear. Attendees would construct larger blocks, which were then assembled by the master builders to make the sculpture.

Block buddies

Aha, the block buddies meme was sparked by a minimalist ad campaign by German firm Jung Von Matt. Anyway, let's see two versions of Toy Story by Carson Hart and Cutlass Iz.

Followed by two versions of Pooh and friends by Cutlas Iz and Etzel87.
